The creation of inspirational play areas that challenge, stimulate and satisfy a range of children’s needs requires experience. Play England offer guidance through their 10 principles for successful playground design which will ensure you and your community get the best from your new play space.
Admiral fully support these principles and as experienced designers of play spaces, we always ensure that where possible these are considered and incorporated in every project we undertake.
Simon Cashmore, Managing Director
- 1. Successful play spaces are bespoke and are designed specifically to suit the surroundings in which they site
- 2. They are well located by being near to the audience and are easily accessible for all
- 3. They make use of the site’s natural elements including the landform, surrounding archaeology and planting
- 4. It should provide a wide range of play experiences by including a selection of surfaces, textures, planting and a combination of wild and more orderly areas
- 5. Areas should be accessible to both disabled and non-disabled users so they can play together and have a range of flexible equipment to choose from
- 6. The play space should meet community needs by engaging everyone in its design and allow the joint agreement of the end goal
- 7. The space should allow children of different ages to play together by offering flexible opportunities and remove boundaries
- 8. The design should build in opportunities to experience risk and challenge for different ages and abilities
- 9. The finished space should be sustainable and appropriately maintained but should allow for natural wear and tear and naturalisation
- 10. Allow for change and evolution both naturally with time and the seasons and planned as part of future development and interest
