Our business has grown from a desire to make children’s playgrounds and play areas into places of fascination and enjoyment for young people and young minds. We understand the components of play and what is needed for a play space that will develop children. Our product range has been aligned to meet the requirements of EYFS, Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2, with products designed to develop specific physical, social and mental skills and our designers blend these with natural features to create a play environment to meet teachers’ needs. Admiral’s aim is to design and build exciting, inspirational play spaces where children love to go and where parents and teachers are happy to take them.
Play is one of the fundamental ways in which children learn and develop. It is an integral part of their lives and one of their prime routes to self expression and enjoyment. Whatever their age, sex, culture or economic and social background, play is an essential part of childhood.
Over the last few years, there has been a stream of research to show that children who have play as part of their curriculum reap a significant benefit. Indeed, research for Play England, published in September 2009, found that nine out of ten parents think their children work harder in class if they are given time to play during the school day. And 88% thought that children who played at break behaved better in lessons. The research also found that three quarters of children said that school provides the main chance they have to play with their friends.
The Director of Play England, Adrian Voce, summed it up when he said
The opportunity for children to play at school is all too easily regarded as a luxury. But children, as well as their parents, are telling us how crucial it is. We know that playing is an essential part of enjoying childhood and that it contributes hugely to children’s informal learning and development. Families are now telling us that it is important in helping children get the most from their formal learning too.
Play is fun and enjoyable but it also keeps children healthy and active. They can challenge themselves in an environment where they can learn about risk, both physical and social. Play spaces which are both exciting and stimulating encourage children to build confidence and resilience and develop their own skills at their own pace. A well designed play area promotes development and learning, imagination and creativity and a sense of independence.
